Tower defense can be a tired genre, but absolutely nothing about Lucky Frame's Bad Hotel feels hackneyed. Protect the silhouetted high-rise from the attacks of Tadstock's critter army with strategic/harried attempts at building, all the while generating dynamic beats echoing through the atmosphere.
Sure, the graphics are the increasingly common silhouette-against-lush-backdrop that's growing increasingly common these days. The aesthetic is in for a reason, though: it's attractive as heck, letting the strategy of placing the various rooms of the hotel speak for itself. You'll have a few spare seconds to barricade yourself with facilities at the beginning of the round, then prepare for an onslaught of birds with bombs, sneaky ground-bound vandals, and a pterodactyl or three.
Hands-down the best part, though, is the audio: each piece you place will resonate with its own beat and rhythm, adding to the engaging auditory experience (headphones recommended!). Build high enough and the background drips and beeps grow more complex to match. It's alluring and addicting; you actually feel like you're doing something incidentally creative alongside the defensive strategizing.
Lucky Frame's Bad Hotel has received a load of well-merited positive press, which it wholly deserves. A splendid, enchanting tower defense game, even for those unfamiliar with the genre.Developer's original description available here

IGF-nominated Lucky Frame brings you their latest crazy musical game creation: Bad Hotel. An insane hybrid of tower defence and procedural music, with beautiful art and tons of bullets.
You are a budding entrepreneur, whose hotel is rather unfortunately located within the territory of Tarnation Tadstock, the Texas Tyrant. Your only defense against Tadstock’s army of seagulls, rats, yetis, and more is to build your hotel as quickly and intelligently as possible, using an array of increasingly sophisticated weapons.
The beautiful artwork, quirky storyline, and frantic gameplay all work seamlessly together with a generative music system, which creates original music depending on the player’s actions and decisions. The player becomes a composer, creating complex musical structures to defend their hotel. A vast variety of music can be generated, from delicate beach chillout to country
